Deccan park gets a third lease of life
Hyderabad: Deccan Park, which has been developed by the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA), will be inaugurated on Monday, for the third time in 15 years. The park has so far been embroiled in controversies and legal battles.
The 31-acre park is located adjacent to the Qutub Shahi Tombs. The QQSUDA began developing it in 2002, at a cost of Rs 2.7 crore. But the Idgah Committee and the Arch aeological Department staked their claim over the land, which led to a case being filed at the High Court in 2006.
In 2011, the Court ruled in favour of the QQSUDA. But the demand for a change of name landed the park in another controversy and kept it shut for seven more years.
Kishan, the Secretary of the QQSUDA, says that the commissioner and minister K.T. Rama Rao have promised that there will be no more hiccups in the functioning of the park.
The park has lain unused for 15 years. Mr Rahiman, the chief engineer, says that though most facilities are defunct at the moment, the authorities plan to completely revamp the park.
Mohammed Rasheed Farazuddin, the local corporator, says that the project will be made a success through the addition of a parking space and the acquisition of permissions for the setup of shops.
