Ramadoss flays leaders' bid to save Ramkumar

S. Ramadoss on Saturday said there is an attempt to protect him even at the cost of the victim's morality.

CHENNAI: Asserting that police had arrested youth Ramkumar in the murder of techie Swathi since there were enough evidences, PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Saturday said there is an attempt to protect him even at the cost of the victim’s morality. Alluding to the remarks of Puthiya Thamizhagam founder K. Krishnasamy and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal leader Thol.

Thirumavalavan, that police should probe the angle of triangle love and existence of male friends for Swathi, the PMK leader said the leaders are prepared to sacrifice the morality of Swathi to protect Ramkumar, who is being portrayed as a hero. “Never before, there were such attempts to impose opinions in favour of one who had been arrested for a brutal murder. This is not good”, he said.

There was no evidence initially about Swathi’s murderer. A youth running away from the spot was recorded in a nearby CCTV camera. Even though the pictures were not clear initially, later the pictures had clarity, he said and added that the police had investigated the case based on the visuals. “A door-to-door inquiry by the police in the Choolaimedu revealed that the youth in the picture is Ramkumar. His shirt with blood stains was found in the room he had stayed and police had arrested him as there were enough evidences to believe that Ramkumar had committed the murder. His attempt to slit his throat when police arrested him confirmed that he is the culprit and it appears that he had confessed to the crime,” Ramadoss said.

But, ‘detectives in public sphere and media’ are saying that Ramkumar could not have committed the crime and that some people are trying to escape by laying the blame on Ramkumar. There is also an attempt to depict him as a victim, Ramadoss said. The views of an actor (Y.G. Mahendra) created a controversy and there were condemnations from several quarters saying that his views would divert the probe and disturb public peace.

“But, there is no difference between the views of the actor and those who call themselves social activists. If there is a perception that no one is for the truth and the murderer had more support, witnesses will be afraid. So, expressing views that affect the investigation should be avoided by everyone”, he said and added that the probe should take place under the supervision of the Madras High Court.
