Family issues? We don't know of any, says DySP MK Ganapati father

Brother also claims he had no idea of Ganapati's issue with wife; DySP never spoke about professional life'.

BENGALURU: CID sleuths, investigating the suicide of DySP M. K. Ganapati, questioned several people including the father and brother of the deceased officer on Saturday. It is said that they did not reveal anything important to the investigators.

CID sources said that a journalist of a regional TV channel, who recorded Mr Ganapati’s statement a few hours before he hanged himself, was questioned on Saturday morning.

“The reporter was given a questionnaire, which he has replied to. He was also asked several questions and he told us that he could make out from Ganapati’s face that the officer was depressed, but did not think that he had already decided to end his life. Information like at what time Mr Ganapati came and left the channel office was collected from the reporter,” an official said.

Later in the afternoon, the investigating team questioned Mr Ganapati’s father Kushalappa and brother. “Both said that they were not aware of the reasons behind Mr Ganapati’s suicide. When asked whether it was any domestic issue between Mr Ganapati and his wife Pavana, they said that the couple came together once in a while and did not talk about any family problem. They said apparently everything was fine, but were not aware whether the couple had any issues between them. Also, Mr Ganapati never spoke about his professional life with them,” the official said.

Though the CID team wanted to question other members of the family, none of them were reportedly available. The auto driver, Dinesh, who took Mr Ganapati to the TV channel office, was also questioned.

“He said Mr Ganapati boarded his auto near the lodge and asked him to go to the nearest TV channel office. The officer asked him to wait there for sometime and the same auto driver dropped him back at the lodge. The lodge employees have made a statement that he introduced himself as DySP and had booked the room for two days,” the official said. The CID team also visited the Mangaluru IGP office, where Mr Ganapati worked, as part of the probe.
