Chennai: Online bus ticket agency told to compensate passenger
Chennai: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Chennai (North) directed RedBus, an online bus ticketing agency, to pay compensation to a youth in the city for not paying him a refund.
In the petition, K.Selvaganapathy of Saidapet submitted that he booked a bus ticket through website of Red Bus to travel from Chennai to Aruppukottai. He paid Rs 700 for the ticket and planned to travel on May 13, 2017. Due to an unforeseen reason he was forced to cancel the bus ticket and he informed the cancellation to Manager, The Red Bus, Koyambedu, Proprietor and The Red Bus, Bengaluru.
He requested to cancel the ticket and the company agreed to cancel the ticket as per request. The companies also assured him that he would receive a refund of Rs 525. On May 16, the company asked him to give his bank account details. However, RedBus did not sent the refund amount. He sought direction to the company to pay him compensation for causing mental agony along with refund.
In its reply, the management of RedBus stated that after cancellation, Selvaganapathy was asked to provide NEFT details for transferring the refund. However, Selvaganapathy failed to reply. Meanwhile, he filed this complaint. The company agreed to refund the amount to him and also collected NEFT (BHIM) details from Selvaganapathy to process refund and this was passed to finance team. But the finance team not carried out the refund through BHIM due to some technical issue. The RedBus was ready to refund Rs 525 now.
The bench comprising President K.Lakshmikantham member P.V.Jeyanthi said Selvaganapathy was put to stress and mental agony by running from pillar to post to get the refund amount. The bench directed RedBus directed to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 along with refund of Rs 525.
