Hyderabad: The first-ever electric vehicle charging facility is set to come up at Miyapur Metro Rail station in two weeks.
A car will take 45 minutes to charge, but charging of electric scooters will take three hours. There will be three charging points. The time for charging depends on the ‘C’ rating of the vehicle which varies from company to company. The cost of charging is yet to be finalised.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, L&T and PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited signed a tripartite agreement on Saturday to set up charging facilities at all Metro Rail stations.
HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy said, “The EV charging cost is going to be half that of petrol or diesel. PowerGrid is setting up the facility. HRML has given land. This is the first time that this is being done in India.”
He said PowerGrid would pay for setting up the facility and would recover the cost. PowerGrid is in talks with Chennai and Delhi Metro to build EV charging stations.
Telangana state will come up with its electric vehicle policy on June 29, said IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan.
Mr Reddy added that the Smart Parking station partner will be finalised in 15 days. “We will be connecting the EV charging stations with Smart Parking lots. The bid process is completed. Using the app, people can book the slot for charging and parking which will be integrated with the command control centre. We will integrate it with the police control also,” he said.
HMRL is also working on swapping of batteries for EVs, wherein instead of leaving the vehicle for charging motorists can swap the battery.
Mr Reddy said the Metro service from Ameerpet to LB Nagar will start in August and on the Ameerpet-Hitec City leg in October. “The test run for Ameerpet to LB Nagar is in progress and will be completed by the end of July,” he said.
He said that unique numbers were being given to Metro Rail pillars and Corridors 1, 2, 3 will be given A,B,C numbers respectively....
