Engineering students demand: Don't sell our seats to TSCHE

Many students had come forward stating that NRI sponsored seats were being auctioned.

Hyderabad: Students associations across the state have written to the Telangana State Council of Higher Education voicing their concern over the filling of engineering seats by college managements by what they call “selling” of seats at exorbitant rates ranging between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 15 lakh depending on the required stream.

Many students claimed that this amounted to injustice to all those students who have secured good ranks in the state entrance exam.

Mr A. Vinay Kumar, a student leader, said, “All we are asking is that the admission should take place as per the Eamcet rules and that all the applications under the management or NRI quota should be displayed on the college portal along with the management fee structure. This mode of admission will only stop when there is complete transparency.”

He stated that many students had come forward stating that NRI sponsored seats were being auctioned. Moreover, there is a common fee for students in the management and convener quota, but colleges are grossly overcharging the fees.

An inquiry has been sought into the matter by students and they have submitted a representation to the council members.

The first phase of counselling for Eamcet engineering seats concluded on Friday. About 12,325 seats for various streams of engineering have not been allotted so far.
