As Kiran Bedi turns 69, Pondy CM, ministers wish her

Raj Nivas has made elaborate arrangements in connection with the birthday celebrations here.

Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi turned 69 on Saturday. President Ram Nath Kovind, and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu conveyed birthday wishes to the country's first woman IPS office officer over the telephone.

Putting aside their differences, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, his cabinet colleagues, and speaker V Vaithilingam also visited Ms Bedi and greeted her on the birthday. So too did leader of opposition N Rangasamy, legislators and a host of leaders.

Raj Nivas has made elaborate arrangements in connection with the birthday celebrations here. The Lt Governor celebrated her birthday with Raj Nivas staff and officials by cutting a cake. Chief Secretary, DGP, Secretaries among others participated in the celebrations.

Ms Bedi later left for Karaikal on an official visit where she interacted with parent-teachers' association and farmers with regard to upbringing of boys and saving water in the forenoon session.

"For saving water lot of community initiatives and establishment systems will be put in place to enhance water storage capacity based on the ideas expressed in the power point presentation made by the Collector," she said.

The Lt Governor also urged the parents and teachers present on the occasion to groom their sons better for them to respect the dignity of women and give women the space due to them so that the society grows together.

The Lt Governor later launched the concept of USR - University Social Responsibility - on the lines of CSR at Pondicherry University along with Vice Chancellor Gurmeet Singh.

The idea, conceived during the recently concluded meeting of governors with the President of India, is intended to inspire and motivate the students to offer time to serve in the community in an area of their choice including sanitation, environment, health care, elder care, water issues, road safety, agriculture, and women safety volunteerism.

Ms Bedi later thanked everyone for the celebrations and said that she is committed to work for the development of Puducherry.
