Telangana: Long distance love story ends in double suicide
Hyderabad: A five-year-old love story between a Gulf migrant from Telangana and his love in Jagtial, came to a tragic end in Saudi Arabia.
Five years ago, Rajashekar and Vennela, his distant relative, fell in love, which became stronger after Rajashekar went to Saudi Arabia for employment. While he promised to marry her after returning to India, her parents forced her to accept other proposals. Unable to bear this, Vennela committed suicide in March.
Days later, after getting the news, Rajashekar also ended his life in Saudi. His mortal remains arrived home on Friday. Telangana Jagruti Gulf Unit assisted Rajashekar's family in bringing his body back home.
The 26-year-old Kunta Rajashekar, a graduate from Medipally in Jagtial district, started working as a marketing executive in a mobile company in Jagtial. His father Kunta Rajanna was working in Saudi Arabia for more than 10 years. Around four years ago, he got a job for his son in Saudi Arabia and called him there.
Rajashekar worked in Saudi for two years and returned home. After six months, he went back to Saudi to work.
Even before travelling to Saudi four years ago, he fell in love with one Vennela, who is his distant relative. Both of them decided to marry, but Rajashekar flew to Saudi.
During his stay in Saudi, their bonding became stronger with the help of social media, which enabled them to keep in touch every day.
Though both families didn’t object to their marriage, they faced problems due to the delay.
After Rajashekar went to Saudi for the second time, the girl’s family started pressurizing her to get married to the boy whom they had chosen. She was not willing. When she explained her predicament to Rajashekar, he told her that they could marry after he returned home and requested her to wait.
However, pressure mounted on the girl from her parents. Unable to bear this, she committed suicide at her home in March.
As soon as she committed suicide, the girl’s relatives spread rumours on social media that Rajashekar was responsible for her death. Rajashekhar, who was already depressed with her death, heard about this rumour.
Exactly four days after the girl committed suicide, Rajashekar took his own life in Saudi Arabia.
Hearing of this, Telangana Jagruthi Saudi Arabia Unit swung into action and helped his family to complete the formalities needed for shifting the body back to India.
