Supreme Court to hear CBSE appeal on NEET result
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday posted for hearing on June 12 an appeal filed by the CBSE seeking a direction to lift the stay imposed by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on publication of results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) held on May 7.A vacation bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and Deepak Gupta agreed to hear the appeal on Monday on a mention made by Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh on the urgency to vacate an interim order passed on May 24 restraining the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from declaring the results of the test till June 12.
The CBSE said if the stay was not vacated, the future of 11.38 lakh candidates who appeared for the NEET would be jeopardized and would create unrest among the stakeholders. The CBSE said it was mandated to complete the admission as directed by the Supreme Court.
Seeking to quash the HC order the CBSE said the question papers were set on the basis of opinion of experts as ‘easy’ , ‘average’ and 'tough'. It pointed out that 90.75 per cent of the students had written the examination in English and only 9.25 per cent of the students had written in vernacular languages.
