Hyderabad: Juvenile boy injures constable

Ramesh was rushed to hospital and is said to be out of danger now.

Hyderabad: A 16-year-old boy who was suspected of being involved in house theft and automobile theft, attacked a police constable in Meerpet on Friday. The boy, who was released from a correctional home, was seen moving suspiciously on a scooter, when constable S. Ramesh and home guard Naveen Kumar tried to apprehend him. In an attempt to escape, the boy attacked Ramesh with a shaving blade, while another home guard, Naveen Kumar, escaped unhurt and fled.

Ramesh was rushed to hospital and is said to be out of danger now. The boy was earlier accused in six cases, including an attempt to murder in Meerpet Police station.

According to police, on Friday, while constable S Ramesh and home guard Naveen Kumar were on beat duty, searching for a stolen scooter, they noticed the boy riding the vehicle. As he had already been arrested in previous cases, they were very familiar with his face and so they identified him and rushed to apprehend him.

“To escape from the cops, he attacked Suresh with a razor blade, causing a lacerated injury on his left forearm and fled the scene. Naveen escaped in the attack,” Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat who visited Suresh at the hospital, said. The commissioner said that the boy, a resident of Nadanavanam, is the son of Gopichand, who is a ‘suspect sheeter’ in Meerpet Police station limits. The boy stopped his education in class V.

Due to bad company and dangerous ‘friends’ he got addicted to bad habits and started committing offences since 2016.

Before this, he was accused in four cases in Meerpet and one each in Saroornagar and Bhavani nagar. Out of the six cases, four were registered in 2017.

He was arrested in 2016 by Bhavani Nagar and Meerpet Police and was released later.

He was arrested again by Meerpet Police in January for theft and was put in a correctional home. After his release in March, he got busy with committing thefts.

“An application is being filed before the Juvenile Justice board to treat the JC as an adult, as the JC is an active, potential bodily and property offender and is involved in six cases.” the commissioner said. Teams have been formed to trace the boy.
