Rains lash Tiruchy and nearby delta districts

The rains, accompanied by storm also uprooted several roadside trees, flooded low lying areas with knee-deep water.

TIRUCHY: Most parts of Tiruchy and its surrounding districts experienced moderate to heavy rains accompanied by heavy winds last night, bringing huge relief to the people who are suffering “Katri Veyil (Agni Nakshatram- the hottest part of summer)” since the last few days.

At the same time, the rains caused severe damage to plantation crops in Thottiam and nearby areas in Tiruchy district, besides in few places in the adjoining districts. The rains, accompanied by storm also uprooted several roadside trees, flooded low lying areas with knee-deep water.

Vathalai recorded maximum rainfall of 101 mm, followed by Nandiyar head (all in mm) 54, Musiri 40, Samayapuram 31, Devimangalkam 20, Thuraiyur 19, Tiruchy junction 17, Tiruchy town 15, Thenparanaadu 12, Lalgudi 10.8, Thathaiyengarpettai, Koppampattim, and Pulivalam 10 mm each, Pullambadi 9.8, Serkudi 9, Navalur Kottapattu and Tiruchy Airport 7 mm each.
