Gangambike Mallikarjun to hold video meet with babus over monsoon

The Mayor will speak to all the senior officers from all the eight zones and to get an update about the work happening.

Bengaluru: For the first time, city Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun will hold a video conference with zone level officers to address all the civic issues and measures to tackle monsoon disruption. This exercise will be done every week and action will be taken against truant officers.

Till now, only joint commissioners were using the video conferencing facility to interact with zone level officers.

A senior BBMP officer said that the decision was taken after the Mayor mentioned that they need to be quick in taking decisions and cannot waste time by visiting the spots.

“The Mayor will speak to all the senior officers from all the eight zones and to get an update about the work happening. If there is any problem, she will resolve it immediately with the help of other senior officers,” the officer added.

The officer mentioned that she will stay connected with officers, as the monsoon is fast approaching and the civic body needs to keep a track on the measures taken to prevent rain-related disruptions.

“Officers who skip video conference will be dealt with strictly, as we do want to show laxity, especially during the monsoon season. We are trying to finish all the civic works before the monsoon sets in. Areas which are prone to water logging are also being looked into and necessary measures are being taken to prevent water stagnation,” said the officer. A joint commissioner from BBMP welcomed the move and said the Mayor had herself taken up the initiative. "When the Mayor is proactive, then everything else will fall into line. We hope that the conference serves the purpose and any issues are resolved,” the officer said. BBMP officials are busy with monsoon preparation and hoping that this season there are no fatalities or water logging.
