Centre yet to fix quantum of drought aid: Krishna Byre Gowda

RDPR minister Krishna Byre Gowda told the media here that New Delhi had discriminated against the state even during last year\'s floods.

Bengaluru: Taking umbrage to the delay on the part of the Union government in releasing Rs 1697 crores for providing succor in drought-hit areas, the state cabinet on Thursday decided to write a protest letter to the minister concerned.

RDPR minister Krishna Byre Gowda told the media here that New Delhi had discriminated against the state even during last year's floods, while this year, it was yet to fix the quantum of aid to be released to Karnataka.

He said the cabinet discussed about widespread drought situation at length, and decided to adopt a three-pronged approach: supply adequate drinking water, create jobs in rural areas, and supply fodder for cattle in areas reeling under scarcity conditions.
