The CM was speaking with representatives of Build Your Dreams (BYD), a Chinese maker of electric vehicles, at Pragathi Bhavan on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the GHMC and RTC would start using electric vehicles in phases, and private institutions in the state will be encouraged to use them.

“We need to achieve 100 per cent use of electric vehicles to make Hyderabad pollution-free,” Mr Rao said.

The CM was speaking with representatives of Build Your Dreams (BYD), a Chinese maker of electric vehicles, at Pragathi Bhavan on Wednesday.

Company officials told Mr Rao that they intended to establish their factory and production unit in Hyderabad to manufacture battery-run vehicles. Welcoming this, Mr Rao offered all help.

Mr Rao said vehicular pollution could be curbed by switching to electric vehicles. He said that as a first step the government would place an order to purchase 500 vehicles. He said that there is huge potential all over the country for electric vehicles. Mr Rao took a brief ride on the electric bus designed and developed by BYD and complemented BYD general manager Liu Xueliang, executive director Zhang Jie and other representatives.

The BYD representatives told Mr Rao that the vehicles could travel up to 400 km on a single charge, and that it would take three hours to charge each vehicle.

Congress, BJP utter flops: KCR

In yet another major concession to farmers, Chief Minister K. Cha-ndrasekhar Rao announ-ced waiver of water cess arrears amounting to nearly '800 crore on Wednesday.

“Now, I think that time has come and I am announcing from this dais, waiving of all the arrears. Not only waiving of arrears, I also announce abolition of water cess in Telan-gana,” Mr Rao said.

Mr Rao also stated that he wanted to play a crucial role in national politics by floating an alternative front because the national parties, Congress and BJP, proved to be ‘utter flops’ in developing the country in the past 70 years.
The Chief Minister asked his audience to clap if they supported him and thanked them after he received thunderous applause.
