Sasikumar case: NIA raids in Kovai
Coimbatore: Sleuths from National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids on five houses in Coimbatore on Wednesday morning in connection with the murder of Hindu Munnani spokesperson Sasikumar.
Hindu Munnani functionary Sasi Kumar was allegedly hacked to death by a group of four in 2016 near his house on the suburbs of Coimbatore. CBCID officials lodged a complaint and arrested Mubaraq 35, Sadam Husain, 27, Subair, 33, and Abudhagir, 32, in connection with the case.
Later, the case was handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA). Based on vital information, NIA has summoned a few functionaries of Popular Front of India for inquiry. NIA is also planning to apply the court to take Mubarak once again under custody for further investigations.
Meanwhile, a team of 30 officials split into five groups and raided five houses and a workshop located in various parts of Coimbatore. The raid started around 4.30 am on Wednesday. One group entered the house of 25-year-old engineer Bebin Rehman at Selvapuram and seized a mobile phone.
Simultaneously, the other teams raided the houses of Muslim youths identified as Aneesh, 32, near Ukkadam and a workshop owned by him near Kannappa Nagar, Hyder Ali, 33, in Sugunapuram, Sadam Husain at Thudiyaloor Cheran Colony and Mohamed Ali residing near Vellakinar on suburbs of Coimbatore.
At the end of the raid, officials recovered mobile phones, sim cards, memory storage device, laptop, a diary and CDs, while raid is still being continued at the house of Mohamed Ali and Hyder Ali. City police were deployed in front of the houses during the raid.
