Chennai: Train traffic affected as passengers block train

Train traffic was affected for more than an hour between Chennai and Arakkonam.

Chennai: Irked over delay in suburban train timings passengers blocked an EMU train at Kadambattur railway station on Wednesday. Train traffic was affected for more than an hour between Chennai and Arakkonam.

Traffic began in the section after senior railway officials who rushed to the spot assured that the punctuality will be restored by next week. The ongoing track repair works at Arakkonam junction has affected train timings and we are completing the work on a war-footing, railway sources said.

However the top brass of the Southern railway and the loco pilots are upset with the increase in the number of train blockades being carried in the state. "For the past three months the trains plying in the state are taken for granted by various fringe elements.

The rail roko events escalated after the Centre failed to implement the Supreme Court verdict on Cauvery and now the passengers are taking a cue from it. A train is blocked and its journey gets delayed," rued a railway loco pilot.
