73 violations in social media sites: BBMP panel

We have also filed 23 complaints of publishing advertisements in the print media without permission, said a senior officer of the BBMP.

Bengaluru: The BBMP Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has filed 73 complaints of publishing information on social media sites without its prior approval.

"We have also filed 23 complaints of publishing advertisements in the print media without permission. Three cases of paid news have been reported in the print media," said a senior officer of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The committee has been set up to ensure that the model code of conduct is not violated.

These complaints will be forwarded to the state media certification and monitoring committee, who will conduct a hearing and also inform the Election Commission officials. Later, the guilty will be penalised, said another officer. "The team members will continue to monitor all news items related to elections and politics telecast on local news TV channels and collect clippings from newspapers until the code of conduct is lifted. Till then, all candidates and parties have to take permission from the committee. Our strict vigilance this time has ensure that the complaints are kept low." The committee works out of the Annexure Building in the BBMP head office.
