Telangana: New substation to end power woes
Hyderabad: Urban centres like Tolichowki, Adityanagar, Shaikpet, parts of Raidurgam under the IT corridor, and the Qutb Shahi tombs area in Shaikpet mandal that are facing problems of low voltage and frequent power supply disruptions have been promised better days.
TSSPDCL is setting up a new substation along with an underground cable system. At present, these localities are provided power from the Shaikpet 33/11KV substation near the Qutb Shahi tombs. Residential areas like Raidurgam, Aziz Bagh, Brindavan Colony, Adityanagar, Suryanagar and Janakinagar are situated far from the substation.
During rain and heavy winds, these areas face serious power disruptions. As the length of the line from the substation to these areas is very long, it is becoming difficult for the electricity staff to identify the problems. As a result, once power disruption takes place, it takes at least six to 12 hours to restore supply.
It is in this context that the SPDCL is erecting a new 33/11KV substation at Aziz Bagh. It would split a few colonies to reduce the load on the Shaikpet substation.
Simultaneously, officials have taken up works for laying underground cables to ensure there is no power disruption during rain and heavy winds.
Officials said the new substation would be operational by the May end. Superintending engineer U. Bala Swamy said the projects wing was facing a few impediments in completing the substation in early.
“The GHMC recently banned road cuttings which will have impact on underground cable works. Similarly, residents of Aziz Bagh are objecting to the new substation. If we are freed from these two issues, the substation will be operational by the end of this month,” he said.
