Neet results may push up demand for agriculture courses

The rank list will be published on June 10.

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on Tuesday announced important dates with regards to admission to various educational courses at the undergraduate (UG) level. TNAU offers 13 UG degree programmes in science and technology at 14 constituent colleges and 21 affiliated (private) colleges located throughout Tamil Nadu.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Dr K .Ramasamy, vice chancellor of the university, said, “On May 12, following the declaration of results, students can submit their application forms for various UG courses. The last date for online submission of applications is June 4.”

The rank list will be published on June 10. The first phase of counseling will be held between June 19 and 24. Counselling sessions for vocational stream, NRI and industry sponsorship quota will be conducted on June 28 and 30. The second phase of counselling will be hosted between July 12 and 15. Registration for the first semester for the following academic year will begin on July 24. If required, the third phase of counselling will be held between August 8 and 12. Admissions will be closed on August 31, the vice chancellor added.

Separate counselling will be held for academic and vocational stream candidates. Counselling will be held at Coimbatore campus only.

The VC told mediapersons that considering the Neet being made mandatory for aspirants planning to take up medicine, he is confident that courses in agriculture at the under graduate level will have many takers this academic year. “Last year we received around 39,872 applications of which 22,395 were from girls, 17,473 were from boys and about four applications were received from members of the transgender community,” Dr K. Ramasamy said.

From the next academic year at TNAU, department of home science will be renamed community service department and home science course will be no longer offered.
