Three days after storm, broken trees litter Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Trees that were chopped or uprooted during Friday’s storm are still to be cleared by the GHMC in some areas.
The corporation is facing a huge task to clear more than 300 uprooted trees along with thousands of metric tonnes of additional garbage that was generated due to storm.
Mr G. Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Vijaynagar Colony said, “GHMC workers have chopped tree branches and dumped them on the road at Vijaynagar Colony. Residents have been complaining for the past three days to clear the mess but in vain. I have contacted the GHMC control room and lodged a complaint (no. 21111111) but no action was taken. I was assured that it would be attended to immediately when I called the second time, but till now nothing has been done. Officials are concentrating only on areas where VIPs live.”
The GHMC control room received more than 250 complaints of tree or branches falling a day after the thunderstorm.
When contacted, an official from the emergency team said, “GHMC is presently concentrating on clearing uprooted trees from main roads to avoid inconvenience to commuters.”
