Telangana government to reward retailers
Hyderabad: Retail outlets with more than Rs 50 crore of investments in Telangana state would be considered industries soon. In order to boost Telangana’s position in the retail trade, the government has prepared a policy which will provide subsidies, loans and incentives to the sector.
A committee chaired by chief secretary Rajiv Sharma has approved the policy and sent it to the Cabinet for approval. After securing its nod, draft will be tabled in the Assembly.
Following several studies in the US and other countries on the retail sector, the government has aimed at $500 bn investments from the retail sector in the state which has urban localities in 42 per cent of its total area.
A source from the industries department said that as the government has decided to consider retail units with more than Rs 50 crore investments as industries, they would get all the benefits from the government on par with those provided to the industrial sector.
