Piyush Goyal: Modi rushed to visit flood-hit victims in Chennai

Mr. Goyal claimed the Chief Minister had no time for her constituency during the December 2015 deluge.

Chennai: Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal took on Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa while campaigning for the BJP in the R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency, from where she is seeking re-election, alleging the constituency lacks basic infrastructure and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had “a heart” for the suffering people airdashed to visit the flood-hit victims of Chennai.

“When the people were suffering due to floods Prime Minister Modi came down all the way from Delhi to Chennai because his heart is with the people of Chennai, with the people of Tamil Nadu. But the Chief Minister had no time for her people,” he alleged during his campaign in support of the BJP candidate M. N. Raja at R K Nagar here on Monday. Mr. Goyal claimed the Chief Minister had no time for her constituency during the December 2015 deluge.

“Can the Chief Minister not at least remove the wastage dumping ground from here? Can the Chief Minister not provide clean drinking water to the people of her constituency,” he asked and claimed the constituency lacked basic amenities including drinking water.

Not much effort had gone into the constituency even as people who elect a particular candidate “have certain expectations,” he told reporters during his campaign. “I don’t think just for the sake of electing a Chief Minister you can fool the people of this constituency anymore,” he added.
