Monsoon to hit Hyderabad on June 5, predicts IMD

According to calculations of the IMD, Hyderabad, its onset over Telangana will be on June 5, much ahead of the usual date of June 13.

Hyderabad: Monsoon will hit Kerala on time, on June 1, and reach Rayalaseema the same day. According to calculations of the Indian Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, its onset over Telangana will be on June 5, much ahead of the usual date of June 13. The official announcement regarding the monsoon’s arrival will be made on May 15.

Assistant meteorologist M. Narsimha Rao said, “The onset of the monsoon will depend on the formation of low pressure over North Bay of Bengal. June 1 is the normal date for onset of the monsoon in Kerala but it may vary. The arrival of the rains in TS will depend on the progress of the monsoon from Kerala. On June 1 it will touch Rayalaseema, too, against last year’s June 10.

There are around 60 rain gauges across Kerala and all of them should record rainfall, only then will monsoon be declared. From south it will progress towards north (Rayalasee-ma) and then cover TS. “In 2015, on a single day — June 13 — the rains had arrived across TS and Tamil Naidu,“ he said.

According to the Met department, the ongoing thunderstorm activity will continue across the 10 TS districts due to the upper air trough over the state and the approaching southerly moist winds.

AP too had rain, but mercury went up
According to calculations of the Indian Meteorological Depart-ment, Hyderabad, Monday saw rain at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. There was an appreciable rise in maximum temperatures at one or two places over Coastal AP and a marked fall at a few places over Rayala-seema.

The highest temperature of 42ºC was recorded at Jangamaheswara-puram in Coastal AP. There was heavy rainfall and hailstorm warning at isolated places in the districts of Srika-kulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur.
