Metro's Purple Line: 1,03,002 & counting

When Sampige Road will be connected to Majestic, the ridership on the green line will see a further rise.

Bengaluru: Namma Metro has seen a tremendous increase in footfalls in the last nine days since the launch of the purple line. On an average, the BMRCL now has a ridership of 1,03,002 per day on the purple line.

Interestingly, the launch of the purple line caused a cascading effect on the green line and its ridership has increased on this line as well and on an average the ridership is 39,000 per day.

When Sampige Road will be connected to Majestic, the ridership on the green line will see a further rise. Meanwhile, the BMRCL is constructing bus bays at Majestic and Sampige station to provide seamless BMTC feeder services to commuters, in order to further boost travellers on the green line.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Vasanth Rao, the spokesperson of BMRCL said, “We have already finished the markings of the bus bays and by Wednesday, it should be ready. Commuters will now get access to buses immediately after coming out of Majestic and Sampige Metro stations. So, we expect an increased number of travellers on the green line. People from the east-west line already use the green line and with the bus bays coming into operation, more people will use this line.”

In the last nine days, the purple line has witnessed a ridership of 927022 with a total revenue of 28144677 being registered. While on the green line, ridership has been 350990, with a revenue of 7216945 earned so far.

A BMRCL official says, “It shows that there is a gradual increase in travel on both lines. Though many weekend commuters are not regulars, they simply come to enjoy the experience of a metro ride, once the High court and colleges open after the vacation, we will have more regular commuters as the purple line will cater to the targeted commuters.”

Meanwhile, the metro connectivity between Sampige and Majestic is likely to happen in a matter of 2 to 3 months.
