Congress MLA's dharna a big hit in Telangana
Hyderabad: The one day mahadharna taken up by Alampur Congress MLA S.A. Sampath Kumar at the site of Rajolibanda diversion scheme near Sindhanur in Karnataka on Monday evoked good response with hundreds of farmers participating. The farmers accused the state government of not taking up their cause.
TS Congress leaders N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, K. Jana Reddy, Mohd. Shabbir Ali, former Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Gadwal MLA D.K. Aruna, TS TD working president A. Revanth Reddy, BJP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy and scores of other leaders attended the dharna to express their solidarity with the MLA.
Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said though Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao mentions the RDS project and injustice being done to Mahbubnagar district in his every speech, but even after two years of his rule, he has not done anything to undo the injustice.
Congress leaders who addressed the gathering said previous Congress government had sanctioned funds for raising the RDS height and also modernisation of the canal works but that was completely ignored by the TRS government.
They said that the Chief Minister was only interested in making money from the contractors who were given works and using that money to buy Opposition MLAs.
Mr Jana Reddy said a Congress delegation would meet Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday in Bengaluru and request him to expedite the works so that Mahbubnagar district benefits. Later in the evening, the leaders offered lemon juice to Mr Sampath Kumar as he ended his fast.
