Hyderabad: Vigilance inspections be-gan in various colleges on Monday though the managements did not cooperate. Teams led by vigilance officials visited engineering, polytechnic and degree colleges in Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Hyderabad. They could not carry out inspections as the college managements did not co-operate.
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had ordered the vigilance inspections to weed out bogus colleges that were flouting rules to dupe students and the government.
Vivekananda Institute of Technology (Karimnagar), Aurora Degree College (Hy-derabad), Aurora Engineering College (Bhongir) and Jagruti Degree College (Shadnagar) were some of the institutions that the vigilance teams visited on Monday. The college staff expressed their helplessness to submit records and documents in view of the ongoing shutdown stir by the college managements’ JAC.
“We told the officials that the JAC had to take a call and we would abide by its decision. They asked us to give the same in the writing and we obliged. The officials informed that they would be coming back for inspections in a week’s time,” said JAC coordinator Gouri Satish.
The vigilance teams have approached registrars of varsities in various districts to assign professors and senior officials to accompany them during the inspections. Instructions were given by the Education department to all varsities in this regard following the request by the vigilance wing.
Private Colleges’ JAC convenor Ramana Reddy alleged that in violation of court orders, the inspection teams comprised officials from commercial taxes, revenue, police, professors and experts from BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad besides the vigilance staff. The JAC is now mulling locking college gates from Tuesday onwards to oppose the inspections, Mr Ramana Reddy said.
