Andhra Pradesh library neglected

Premises has poor toilets, power, drinking water facilities.

GUNTUR: Lack of minimum facilities like adequate seating arrangement, proper toilets at the state library in the city has been putting students and aspirants of competitive exams to trouble.

There is a common toilet for both males and females, and even that is in a very poor condition with no proper doors. In fact, women spending more than 10 hours in the library said they cannot use it as they fear men might come when they are present there.

The toilets lack flush facility. Water has to be carried from a tank outside the toilet. The maintenance of the toilets is pathetic, said V. Karuna, a student aspiring for Groups examination.

The officials at the library said they could not maintain the toilets properly due to insufficient funds. As many youngsters have pinned high hopes on the notification of the Groups exams this year, the number of students visiting the library has increased with many from various districts reaching Guntur for coaching and preparation.

This apart, the students are also preparing for Railway Recruitment Board, Banking, Staff Selection Commission, UPSC and other board exams at the library, as it is one of the big libraries available in the state, after bifurcation of the state. One other reason for the rise in the number of students visiting the library is the academic year has completed and the students are having a lot of leisure time.

Keertana, one of the students visiting the library, said she was spending more than 10 hours in the building but not able to go to the toilet. Students aspiring for competitive exams spend more than 10 hours a day, to complete the syllabus in order to get a rank in the exams.
