Kalpetta: The Congress state committee has decided to ensure the highest victory margin possible for AICC president Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad Lok Sabha Constituency and has put the party machinery working with systematic precision. It is a new trend that workers and leaders across group barriers have come out and taken responsibility to perform the field work without being prompted by leaders, it was pointed out.

Citing the new found excitement, Wayanad DCC president I.C. Balakrishnan said that the UDF workers are in full steam across the constituency at the moment AICC finalised the candidature of Mr Gandhi.

“Workers themselves got organised and started planning for the area and intimated us about the developments,” he said. A host of senior Congress leaders including A.K. Antony and Oommen Chandy are already campaigning in the Constituency.

Congress leader A.P. Anilkumar who is monitoring the election campaign for Rahul Gandhi in the constituency told DC that with other top leaders joining the campaign in the coming days, the party workers would be much more energised. Mr Gandhi would be coming soon for second and third rounds along with other leaders which would further influence  more and more voters, he said, adding that the campaign here is not for winning but for increasing the margin.

It may be recalled that the first visit of Mr Gandhi accompanied by sister Priyanka Vadra Gandhi, AICC general secretary of UP East, to file nomination at the constituency, at Kalpetta here, had witnessed a surge of UDF workers on the streets.
