Hyderabad: 223 candidates face criminal charges
Hyderabad: As many as 223 candidates contesting the AP Assembly elections have declared that they face criminal cases. These include alleged molestation, kidnapping, rioting, assault on public servant and attempt to murder. Over 28 candidates have declared cases related to crime against women such as assault or criminal force with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC Section 354), word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (IPC Section 509).
The YSRC has 97 candidates who declared they were facing criminal cases, and the TD 48.
YSRC president Jagan Mohan Reddy faces 31 criminal cases, a majority of them being alleged financial fraud. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh have got stay orders from different courts in more than 17 cases.
