Two farmers electrocuted in Suryapet

Hyderabad: Two farmers died after being electrocuted in Suryapet district on Monday morning. Vasapolu Satyanarayana, 55, and his son-in-law N. Sravan Babu, 30, were repairing the tin roof of their home in preparation for Satyanarayana’s son’s wedding when the incident occurred. Tungaturthi MLA Gadari Kishore Kumar visited the family of the deceased and assured them that they would receive help from the government.

Satyanarayana was a resident of Kommala village of Arvapally mandal in the district. His son Upender was scheduled to be married on Thursday.

The house that Satyanarayana and his family lived in had a roof made of tin sheets. But due to the recent rains, parts of the roof got damaged. To avoid any trouble during the wedding, the family decided to repair the roof. On Monday morning, Satyanarayana, his sons-in-law Sravan Babu and Vijay, his son Upender, and a neighbour, Srinivas started to repair the roof. They used a J-wire to tie the sheets and hold them in place. When they were in the process of tightening the wire, it came in contact with the service cable supplying electricity to their home.

The service cable got cut and electricity began to be conducted through the J-wire. All five men received injuries. Two of them died on the spot, and the other three were rushed to a nearby hospital.
