Thiruvananthapuram: Unionists have returned Rs 25,000 they had allegedly extorted from actor Sudheer Karamana as Nokkukooli. CITU district secretary had earlier suspended 14 workers attached to their Arasumoodu unit. They returned the money on Monday following a discussion in the presence of State Child Protection Committee general secretary S.P. Deepak, former MLA V. Sivankutty, former mayor Jayan Babu and Kazhakoottam labour office representative Krishna Kumar.

The actor who lauded their efforts said the suspension of workers had pushed their families into financial issues. Hence he was ready to settle the matter on humanitarian grounds. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and minister Kadakampally Surendran were also involved in solving the issue.

The incident happened at the new house of the actor near bypass at Chackai on March 31. They had allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh. Workers from the granite company also had arrived here to unload it.Finally, a settlement arrived and, the actor paid Rs 25,000 as "nokkukooli". The workers left asking him to unload the granite on his own, following which he took to the social media to share his experience.
