IT mission mulls mKeralam 2.0 after setback
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In view of the massive adverse feedback for the recently launched ‘mKeralam’ mobile app of the state government, the Kerala State IT Mission is planning a revamp of the app. Google Playstore is almost flooded with adverse comments about the app, especially issues pertaining to initial registration and the complex format for password. Many users even used harsh words to criticise the app, which has been launched after a couple of years of planning and development. Though some users had appreciated the app for the host of services it is offering, those were getting buried by the avalanche of adverse comments.
The rating for the app is only around 2.4 out of five. Kerala State IT Mission sources said that they were in the process of revamping the app by considering the user experience. “We are trying to make the initial registration process simple by reducing the number of fields and by introducing mobile or e-mail based One Time Password system. Also the complex parameters for passwords would also be simplified,” IT Mission head e-governance Mr K Sabarish told DC.
Meanwhile, sources in the IT sector said that the major technical issue with the app was that it was developed as a direct interface of the State Service Delivery Gateway, which uses the complex registration process. The app had also reportedly faced an unsuccessful hacking attempt within days after its launch. The app that offers about 100 services of 17 government departments and institutions was launched during the inaugural session of #Future event in Kochi on February 22. Already about 17,000 users had downloaded it.
