Hyderabad: Drunk b'day boy jumps to death from moving car
Hyderabad: A 23-year-old engineer jumped out of a moving car and then off a flyover at KPHB on Sunday evening. Garugu Shobanadri Reddy, who turned 23 on Sunday, was highly inebriated at the time of the incident. He died while undergoing treatment on Sunday night.
Shobanadri, a native of Guntur district, was in the city to look for a job. He was living in Pragati Nagar. On the occasion of his birthday, he and a friend, Vishnu, went out for lunch in another friend’s car. They consumed alcohol at a bar in Jubilee Hills and became heavily intoxicated. After that, they decided to return to Shobanadri’s room.
Seeing that Shobanadri was driving rashly, Vishnu made him stop and called two other friends to drive the vehicle. When they reached Madhapur, Shobanadri forced his friends to stop the vehicle and started creating nuisance. Passers-by alerted the Madhapur police who rushed to the spot, counselled the group and sent them.
Later, when the vehicle was on the Hitec City flyover, travelling towards JNTU junction, Shobanadri, who was sitting in the passenger seat, suddenly pulled the handbrake and jumped out of the vehicle. Before his friends could react, he jumped off the flyover. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed.
A. Venkateshwarlu, the SI of KPHB, said that his parents did not suspect any foul play. When Shobanadri’s friends were questioned, they said that he was under the effect of alcohol, and he may not have known what he was doing when he jumped. A case of accidental death has been registered.
