Bad roads: Kondapur residents slam GHMC
Hyderabad: The residents of Kondapur say that the GHMC is ill-prepared to handle downpours, even though the highest amount of property tax is collected from Serilingampally Circle 20. In the midst of the high-rise buildings of Maseed Banda runs a damaged muddy road, which poses a threat to pedestrians as well as motorists. The road that connects Camelot Layout and Raghavendra Colony is in terrible condition. Commuters are sure to be left with mud stains on either their clothes or their vehicles when they use this road. The stretch is extensively used by techies, and they are requesting the civic body to expedite the repair of the road.
“This road is in a pathetic condition. The civic body has never taken up holistic road development works. The road couldn’t even handle last week’s drizzle. I wonder if the GHMC will be able to complete the work before the onset of the monsoon”, says Gaurav Gupta, who regularly uses the road. In the month of January, the road, which has schools on either side of it, was flooded with sewage water. Since then, the road has been in a dilapidated state, complain motorists.
Local residents have been writing to the GHMC, requesting them to expedite the works. “Thousands of motorists use this road to commute to work on a daily basis. It needs immediate attention before it takes a toll on someone’s health. The work started in January; it’s already April, and yet the road is in a sad state. The unevenness of the road is the main problem which needs to be addressed immediately,” said K. Narayana, a local resident.
On Friday, cranes were seeing dumping mud on the road to make it less uneven. Meanwhile, GHMC officials say that pipeline work is in progress; the road can only be laid after that is completed. “We are working on the issue. We have expedited the work, considering the inconvenience being caused. We will complete the pipeline work within a week, after which the road can be laid by the maintenance team,” a GHMC official said.
