Hyderabad: Selfies take focus off Sachin Tendulkar's campaign

Tendulkar took the opportunity to advise the two-wheeler riders who were without helmets, to don protective gear.

Hyderabad: While fans were busy clicking selfies with master blaster Sachin Tendulkar at a traffic signal in Hyderabad, the former cricketer took the opportunity to advise Hyderabad’s two-wheeler drivers to wear helmets, saying road safety should be the highest priority.

The incident happened when Tendulkar was in the city recently to flag off the Indian Premier League series that started in Hyderabad on April 5. He was sitting in the back seat of a car when motorists saw him and started clicking selfies.

Tendulkar took the opportunity to advise the two-wheeler riders who were without helmets, to don protective gear. “Promise me you will wear a helmet. It is dangerous for you and life is very precious so please promise me that you will surely wear a helmet from next time. Is it a promise to me?” he tells a driver, who replies, “Yes.”

Tendulkar tweeted the video, titled ‘Helmet Dalo’ on Sunday.Hyderabad traffic DCP A.V. Ranganath said, “Exhorting a vehicle rider to wear a helmet is a good example of taking up a social cause like road safety. All celebrities should follow suit. Hyderabad traffic police will be glad to be associated with any celebrity taking up this social responsibility.”
