Teachers quit University of Hyderabad administrative jobs
Hyderabad: In connection with the Rohith Vemula issue, members of the SC/ST Teachers Forum of University of Hyderabad on Saturday resigned from their administrative positions in protest against Prof. Appa Rao Podile resuming duty as vice-chancellor.
Teachers of the forum had earlier resigned from their administrative positions on January 21 as a mark of protest following Vemula’s suicide. After Prof. M. Periasamy took charge as in-charge VC in February the teachers resumed their duties on condition that Prof. Podile should not return as the VC and an impartial judicial probe should be conducted in the scholar’s suicide.
The teachers in their letter to Prof. Podile on Saturday said that as peacefully protesting students were arrested by police along with faulty members who were present at the location trying to calm the students, they have lost faith in the VC’s ability to lead the university.
