Heat wave, drought in Telangana halt KCR bus yatra
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s proposed ‘Bus Yatra’ in Telangana state is likely to be postponed due to the severe heat wave and drought conditions prevailing across the state.
Mr Rao had announced that he would go on the yatra in April, soon after the completion of the recent Budget session, to see for himself the progress of various developmental activities and welfare schemes being taken up by the TRS government in the districts.
However, with all districts facing unprecedented water crisis and drought, resulting in public resentment, ministers and other party leaders have advised the CM not to take up bus yatras now.
The ground-level situation put forth by the ministers and officials from districts before the CM indicated that the prevailing adverse conditions across TS were not suitable for Mr Rao to conduct yatras now.
Irrigation projects and borewells have gone dry and there is no water to drink in villages and municipalities.
There is large-scale migration of people from districts to urban areas in search of livelihood, resulting in several villages almost becoming empty. People are selling cattle due to lack of fodder and water and to make a living.
One has to walk miles in the scorching heat for drinking water. None of the 67 municipalities are in a position to provide drinking water even for an hour at least twice a week.
