Chennai to get rains by end of April, May

The Met department officials said temperature would remain normal.

Chennai: While Western Ghats, Coimbatore district and southern parts of Tamil Nadu may receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days, Chennai and northern parts of Tamil Nadu will receive rainfall only by the end of April or May first week as predicted by weather bloggers and Met department.

According to Kea blogger Senthil Kumar, the Western Ghats, southern parts of the state and Kanyakumari will witness moderate to heavy rainfall. “In the northern parts of Tamil Nadu, which include Chennai there won’t be any rain. From April 14 to 22, there might be some rain in north western part of the state,” he said. He added that from May second week some rain may occur in coastal area.

“The summer rain, southwest monsoon, will set in first week of June. It is now the convectional rainfall,” he said. Further former deputy director general of meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre Y.E.A. Raj said interior of Tamil Nadu would be hotter. The temperature will slightly be cooler near the coast. There won’t be any major rainfall.

“By end of April and first week of May westerly winds will bring convectional rain band and Chennai and Northern part of Tamil Nadu will get prolonged heavy rainfall then which will take place in the day time,” he said. Easterly wind will bring moisture content from Bay of Bengal and the rainfall will occur in the wee hours, he said.

The Met department officials said temperature would remain normal. For Saturday it recorded 34.1 degree Celsius. In entire state the overall humidity will vary from 70-80 per cent.
