THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is exploring legal options of filing an appeal against the High Court order for a CBI probe into the murder of Youth Congress leader S.P. Shuhaib in Kannur. According to sources, the government has directed Advocate-General C.P. Sudhakara Prasad to explore the legal option.
Chief Minister’s private secretary M.V. Jayarajan said that a decision on filing an appeal was yet to the taken. Sources said that advanced stages of the police investigations and legal issues over the single bench’s powers to order a CBI probe would be the grounds being explored for filing the appeal.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the CPM was fearing that many party leaders would be implicated in the murder case if the CBI probed into the case. Hence the government was exploring the option of filing an appeal against the court order.
Referring to an earlier statement of Law Minister A.K. Balan that the government was prepared for any probe into the murder, Mr. Chennithala said that the government was making a somersault now. The High Court ordered the CBI probe after pointing out lapses in the police probe, he said.
