RK Nagar bypoll on April 12

RK Nagar will go to the polls on April 12 (Wednesday) and the counting of votes will be on April 15. (Saturday).

Chennai: The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the poll schedule for the Bye-election to Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly Constituency that became vacant after the demise of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa. RK Nagar will go to the polls on April 12 (Wednesday) and the counting of votes will be on April 15. (Saturday).

Filing of nominations and issue of notification will start on March 16 (Thursday) and last date for filing nominations will be on March 23 (Thursday), reads a poll notification order from ECI. Date for scrutiny of nominations will be on March 24 (Friday) and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is March 27 (Monday). The date before which the election process shall be completed is April 17.

The model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the district of Chennai in which the whole or any part of 11. Dr Rahdkarishnan Nagar Assembly Constituency is included. The Model Code of Conduct shall be applicable to all candidates, political parties, state and union government in respect of the above district, the poll notification said.

Meanwhile Chennai corporation also directed its officials to adhere to the poll norms and cancel all the scheduled functions and new schemes for north Chennai. Counting stations, strong room and the polling booths will be reviewed by next week while the voters’ list is ready, a senior corporation official said. No new civic works will be taken up in the poll bound constituency, but ongoing projects and the schemes for which already work orders issued will continue, the official added.
