Siddaramaiah looks to ADB for mega project assistance

CM said urbanisation was a huge challenge faced by Karnataka as urban population has grown by 31 per cent over the last one decade.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday admitted to a delay in implementation of projects despite the best of intentions and efforts of local authorities.

Speaking at a meeting with Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakoa here, the Chief Minister said the government was committed to successfully completing all projects in a time bound manner. However, there are local factors, which sometimes lead to unavoidable delay in their implementation.

“I hope the fruitful partnership between ADB and Karnataka continues in the future. Our government and its officers are ready to interact with you, learn from you and also share with you our own experience and best practices in the field of development,” he added.

Mr Siddaramaiah said development of quality infrastructure including urban infrastructure would be one of the critical determinants of the state’s future growth path and that his government is committed to launch of large scale infrastructure development across the state.

Some of the special projects the government intends to take up include developing railways in Mysuru, Bidar, establishing ‘Smart Cities’ in Belagavi and Davanagare, and expansion of Bengaluru Metro Project, which would help in development of the region.
