Enroll before April 15 for polls, says CEO Rajesh Lakhoni

Public can use the centres for name correction, inclusion, photo change, new epic card and all other services related to voters roll.

Chennai: About 38,000 polling booths in Tamil Nadu will be covered through web cameras and CCTVs to ensure free and fair polling on May 16, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said on Wednesday.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of an event held to popularise Tamil Nadu election at All India Radio station here, the CEO said poll officials have set up election facilitation centers in 363 locations across the state, including 269 taluk offices, 80 revenue divisional offices and district collectorates to help voters. The centres will work also on Sundays and deal issues related to elections.

Public can use the centres for name correction, inclusion, photo change, new epic card and all other services related to voters roll. New electoral photo identity card can also be availed at a fee of Rs 25 in these centres and the cards can be collected after two weeks, the CEO said. Political parties can also contact these centres to avail orders for meetings, rallies and processions.

This is being done for the first time in Tamil Nadu to help voters, he said adding the new ID cards can be availed from nearby taluk offices till April 15. Lakhoni also said surveillance squads had seized 120 kg of ganja in Ramanathapuram.

Till Tuesday, 14 FIRs had filed against persons for violating election rules.
Election officials also said to make registering process easier for voters, online service is also provided and the voter Ids will be sent through speed posts.

Till now, 1,402 flying squad personnel are positioned to monitor vehicles and prevent poll code violations. Unaccounted cash of more than Rs 1 crore had been seized till Wednesday. More than 70,000 political posters across the state had been removed.
