Change of bus stand exit solves traffic woes
GUNTUR: The frequent traffic jams in front of the NTR bus station at Guntur is severely troubling the public. The presence of entry and exit ways to APSRTC buses on the Guntur-Vijayawada road is causing traffic jams from morning till night. Besides this, parking of autorickshaws and pus-hcarts further increasing the traffic problems. The public are demanding restraining of the frequent traffic jams by regulating the traffic and diverting exit way from Guntur-Vijayawada road. The Guntur urban police initiated measures by closing the exit of buses towards Vijayawada road from the bus station.
The bus stand centre is the main commercial centre of Guntur where nearly 3,000 buses per day pass through the bus station. Earlier, the private tourist operators also used to stop their buses in front of the bus station, but APSRTC officials took measures to shift the parking of private buses which became a threat to the revenue of the APSRTC. The buses entering into the bus station will stop for a while before the entry gate for the stepping down of the commuters.
The autorickshaw drivers in a hurry to pick up passengers are parking their autorickshaws on the road, thereby conjesting it and further creating traffic jams. Similarly, the buses towards Vijayawada will stop for a while near the Manipuram flyover whe-re the pushcart vendors occupy half of the road creating traffic jams from morning till night. Commuters J. Parasu-ram and others lamented that autorickshaws, pushcarts, service cars block the way and exit of APSRTC towards Vijayawada are the main causes of the frequent traffic jams everyday and they are getting delayed to their duties due to traffic hurdles.
They demanded regulation of traffic by allotting parking place to autorickshaws and service cars and further stopping exit of RTC buses on Vijayawada road. Guntur urban SP, Sarvasreshth Tripathi said that they have discussed about the traffic problem and decided to stop exit of buses from the bus station from the Vijayawada road side. Mr Tripathi said that all the buses will exit from Nandivelugu Road to resolve the traffic problem.
