Thiruvananthapuram: The wedding of Sini Soon and P R Vishnu is the first one in the district to receive a memento from District Suchitwa Mission. It was handed over to the beaming bride by District Collector K Vasuki outside Varkala Sivagiri Mutt. This could soon be the norm of every green wedding, as the district administration is thinking of issuing green certificates for all such weddings. “I wish that every wedding in the district follows the green protocol,” the Collector said.
What was special about the event was that the girl’s mother Prasanna Soon, on her own, wanted it to be a green protocol wedding. She had convinced the caterers to avoid disposables of all kinds. The only thing which did not go as per Prasanna’s plan was the caterer using paper sheets on which banana leaves were laid. “The caterers were not willing to remove the sheets,” she told Vasuki, sadly. “That’s ok. This too will change,” consoled the collector.
