Khammam walkers to get new track

Massive walking track ready from February 11.

KHAMMAM: Here is a good news for the walkers in Khammam town. A massive walking track with the length of 2,500 feet at Lakaram Tank is ready for walkers. It is three to four times bigger than the present three walking tracks in Khammam.

Though the three walking tracks were not designed scientifically, the walkers use it. The oldest one is the walking track at Pavilion Ground near Mayuri Centre and it is the first ground in Khammam. The length of this track is only 600 feet. The second is the walking track at Sardar Patel Stadium and it has a length of 600 feet. The third walking track is in the ground of PG College with a length of 900 feet. Many of the walkers have been using the grounds of Patel Stadium and PG College Ground.

But, the walking track in Lakaram Tank is bigger than these three tracks and it was built by adopting proper methods. The bund around the Lakaram tank was made as walking track lined with lush greenery.

The growing health consciousness has led people of all age groups to walk regularly.

Even the elders, septuagenarians and octogenarians have been going on walks regularly.

The PG College ground is the best example for it. At 5.30 pm everyday, there is a crowd of people looking like a rally in progress.

A. Krishna Rao, a walker said, “Many of them prefer to walk evenings in the winter because of prevailing fog till 8.30 am in the mornings. The fog causes health problems such as flu and cough. The new track is useful to us.”

The track at Lakaram Tank will be opened for walkers from February 11 and a 5K run will be held on the day. The run will commence from District Court and end at the Lakaram tank walking track.
