BENGALURU: Legislators set a dubious record in the Legislative Assembly as a no-show by a majority of them delayed commencement of the proceedings by 80 minutes on Friday.

The quorum bell rang for 77 minutes as the House lacked the quorum of at least 25 members out of the total strength of 225. When the proceedings commenced 80 minutes behind schedule, leader of Opposition, Jagadish Shettar, pointed at the empty rows in the treasury benches saying "Is there no responsibility? About seven ministers are not here, so why have the session?"

He raised the issue of protest by mid-day meal workers and wanted a reply from the government. "We want the education minister to reply, but he is neither here nor at the protest site.” Deputy Speaker Shivashankara Reddy, who was in the chair, read out the list of members who had sought permission to stay away from the proceedings on the last day of the ongoing session.
