Hyderabad: The principal of a school in Hyderabad has been caught on a video caning students, allegedly for not paying the fees. This incident reportedly occurred at the Shalibanda branch of Gowtham Model School in Charminar.
The video shows the principal, who has been identified as Sunitha, making students of classes VIII and X stand outside their classrooms and caning them.
According to police officials, the incident occurred in December 2017, but the video has surfaced only recently and has been doing the rounds of the internet.
Child rights activists are demanding the arrest of the principal and the initiation of action against the school and the district education officer for failing to curtail the atrocities that have become rampant in the state.
Shayam Sunder, the Inspector of Hussaini Alam PS, said, “We have booked a case against the school principal based on the complaint made by the child rights activist Achutya Rao. The complaint number is 23/18 and the principal has been charged under Section 324 of the IPC for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. We have come to know that the video is from December 2017, but so far no one has come forward to make statements on behalf of the children or the school. Further investigation is underway and we will be going to the school to conduct further inquiries.”
