Telangana: Railways opt for Swiss challenge method

The programme was launched by railway minister Suresh Prabhu from New Delhi.

Hyderabad: South Central Railways general manager Vinod Kumar Yadav on Thursday said that Rs 282 crore was allocated in the Union Budget for providing world class features for the Secunderabad Railway Station and Rs 194 crore for Vijayawada Station.

Mr Yadav told the media here that the projects were being taken up under Modified Swiss Challenge method, adapting the Quality and Cost Based Solution system by identifying a project proponent that would prepare the Detailed Project Report.

“The project will seek to involve state governments, various Central government wings, global experts etc. Vijayawada and Secunderabad stations are among the 23 stations of Indian Railways that have been taken up under re-development programme,” Mr Yadav added.

The programme was launched by railway minister Suresh Prabhu from New Delhi. Secunderabad railway station has 1.5 lakh footfalls through 230 trains and generates Rs 2 crore revenue per day. The station has 5.62 acres of reserve land and the Railways will take up development projects in the land apart from the station.

Railways will take up commercial development works of airspace in 96,243 sq. mts, including 10,896 sq. mtrs in station build area, 41,832 sq. mts of platform area and 43,515 sq. mts of circulating area.
