ZP-TP polls: Anti-Yettinahole activists too launch campaign
Mangaluru: Activists fighting to put a stop to the controversial Yettinahole Project are out campaigning to make people here understand the power of None of The Above (NOTA) option in voting machines to demonstrate their anger against politicians who are silent on the water scheme.
With no political party supporting the anti- Yettinahole project movement, activists have decided to show their might by asking the people to opt for the NOTA option in the coming Zilla Panchayat elections.
They are resorting to the tactic for the second time in recent years , the first time being the 2014 Parliamentary elections. Then as many as 7,109 people had opted for NOTA to demonstrate their anger against the project.
“When none of the political parties or politicians have supported us in the anti -Yettinahole campaign there is no point in voting for them,” says Sahyadri Sanchayat convenor, Dinesh Holla.
“We had campaigned for NOTA in the 2014 elections when there was not much of a movement against the Yettinahole project. But now people are angry and there is strong opposition to the project. So we expect more of a turnout in support of NOTA this time,” he adds, explaining that activists will visit shops and houses in the district asking people to opt for NOTA.
“People should not sit quiet and do nothing. Pamphlets will be distributed shortly,” he says.
