Visakhapatnam eyes global status
Visakhapatnam: Human Resources Development minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said steps were being taken to transform Vizag on par with other world class cities.
On Tuesday, Mr Rao inaugurated advanced sanitary machinery procured by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), worth Rs 21 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rao said that Vizag emerged as a global destination by successfully conducting the Fleet Review.
“I extend my hearty thanks to one and all who played a key role in the success of IFR. The state government would enter into various MoUs and agreements with the US companies and investors to develop Vizag as a Smart City on Feb. 12, in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu,” said Mr. Rao.
The minister informed that they would widen roads in the Old City of Vizag to make travelling easy and also provide better infrastructure in that area.
“We have put forward proposals for an International Airport and Trade Fair complex in Vizag city” said Mr. Rao.
GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar said that the advanced sanitary machines have been acquired with the funds given under the 13th Finance Commission.
“These would help put sanitation and cleanliness of Vizag city on a top notch. Two road sweeping machines, eight small excavators, eight large excavators, one beach cleaning machine, UGD cleaner, bobcat machine, four garbage compactors would join the manual force of the GVMC,” said Mr Kumar.
He said people should also take the initiative to keep the city clean and tidy by not littering waste. He urged the public to cooperate with the officials in maintaining cleanliness.
Sea voyage facility in Vizag
Sea voyage would become a reality for tourists and citizens of Vizag in the next few days as the state government has decided to utilise the recently launched Passenger Jetty at Slipway Complex for full-pledged tourism activities.
HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao chaired a meeting with district collector Dr. N. Yuvraj and others regarding setting up tourism boats at the Passenger Jetty.
Upon directives from the CM, Mr. Rao asked the officials to take measures to run tourism boats under the APTDC from the jetty in the next 2-3 days. The collector said they were planning a cafeteria and a hotel on the premises. In talks with hoteliers about launching a cafeteria and premium hotel in the passenger jetty premises.
The Slipway Jetty has been recently by providing separate access and landscaping for the naval delegates, who disembarked ashore for the International Fleet Review, by the Visakhapatnam Port Trust with about Rs. 4 crore.
